Today is Thanksgiving, and that means tomorrow everyone will officially be allowed to listen to Christmas music! And if you’re going to do Christmas music, you should do it right, don’t you think?

Indianapolis Symphonic Choir Festival of Carols

Every year, the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir (the choral partner of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra) does it like none other with their Festival of CarolsAs a former choir nerd, I may be totally biased, but there’s nothing like hearing a choir sing Christmas carols, and the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir is one of the best around. You’ll hear all of your favorite Christmas classics beautifully performed. Here’s a little more about the show:

The 2014 Festival of Carols will feature the 200-voice chorus with a symphony orchestra performing holiday favorites including “White Christmas,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” the Polar Express favorite “Believe,” “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch,” the “Hallelujah Chorus,” and more. Special guests include soprano Maria Jette (as heard on NPR’s Prairie Home Companion) and an appearance from the Jolly Man himself. As part of the Choir’s educational initiatives, students from the “Then and Now” choir at Perry Meridian High School and Lawrence North High School’s “Central Sound” will join for the December 7 and 20-21 performances respectively.

Festival of Carols has become such a holiday tradition,” says Artistic Director Eric Stark. “I always enjoy seeing kids ‘from 1 to 92’ as the song says in the audience, beginning their holiday season with the Symphonic Choir. These four performances of Festival of Carolsalways attract many returning audience members who have built their holiday traditions around the beloved, familiar concert repertoire. But the performances also include music instantly synonymous with the holidays for our first-time attendees as well. Who can refuse songs like ‘White Christmas,’ after all?”

Doesn’t that sound amazing? Definitely one of the best things to do in Indianapolis this holiday season. Here are all the details on this year’s show:
