It’s not yet Halloween, but in most stores you can find Christmas displays and decorations for sale. Many people think it’s too much too soon (and I tend to agree), but when it comes to the great music of Christmas, why wait until December?

An Irish Christmas

An Irish Christmas is coming to Indianapolis November 9th, and it’s the perfect opportunity to get into the Christmas Spirit. This live performance features traditional Irish Christmas music, traditional Irish dancing, and a look at the Christmas traditions of Ireland. In addition, you’ll hear traditional holiday classics like “Silent Night,” “Little Drummer Boy,” and “Carol of the Bells.” You may have seen this show on PBS, and now you have a chance to enjoy it in person!

Here’s a little more about the show:

An Irish Christmas offers something for the whole family – joy, hope, laughter, friendship, and celebration of life through storytelling, music, song and dance through generations over brooms, on half doors, around butter churns, into the world of mythology and out again. Including holiday classics like “Silent Night,” “The Little Drummer Boy” and “Carol of the Bells,” pipes, flutes, fiddles, button accordion and bodhráns bring Irish flair to the orchestra alongside a superb team of Irish traditional musicians, dancers from the Kerry Dance Troupe, the Kerry Records voice squad, and Irish actor Sheelagh Cullen.

Traveling through time, guests will experience Christmas in Ireland and witness the great tradition of butter making, chase the wren on St. Stephen’s day, draw the half door of spectacular dance, and enjoy music making and great storytelling in an unforgettable Irish night.

This is a great opportunity to welcome the holiday season while learning about other cultures. The homeschool mom in me thinks this show would be a great tool for teaching my kids about Christmas in other countries. On the flip side, it would also be a great date with my husband, who loves Irish music.
