Big thanks to Walgreens for sponsoring this post and our super fun evening. All opinions are mine. All love of cars belongs to my boys.

When you’re the mom of little boys, you quickly learn what things boys automatically consider “awesome.” The list includes trains, dinosaurs, LEGO blocks, fart jokes, and of course, race cars. So when we were invited to meet NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Ryan Reed and check out the Walgreens Balance Financial MasterCard Mustang GT, I very quickly said, “YES!” I don’t like to miss out on opportunities to be a rock star mom.

NASCAR Driver Ryan Reed

We got to meet up with Ryan and the Mustang downtown at Monument Circle as he filmed his new webisode for #RaceAroundAmerica. Ryan’s story is an inspiring one. Ryan was a rising star in the racing world, when at 17 he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He was told he would never be able to race again. However, with some modifications to his car, Ryan is able to race safely and pursue his dream. He also¬†takes time to visit children’s hospitals as he travels across the country, to meet kids and let them know that they aren’t defined by their illness. As Ryan told me, “Visiting those kids really puts things in perspective.”

Walgreens Balance Card Mustang

Ryan also told us a little bit about the convenience of the Balance Financial MasterCard, a prepaid card that’s a safe alternative to cash. Ryan uses his card mostly to purchase things like insulin and glucose testing supplies when he’s on the road, but he also likes to stock up on snacks. In our family, the Balance Financial MasterCard would be handy as we get ready to send our oldest to kindergarten. There are lots of supplies we’re purchasing for the first time! I can also see it being handy for teens to learn how to manage spending, or for sending kids off to college.

This would look good with car seats in the back, right?

Ryan was kind enough to let my boys fully explore the ROUSH Stage 3 Mustang, and the oldest repeatedly asked me if it could be our car. It could be ours, or yours, because you can win the Mustang for yourself! You can also keep up with Ryan Reed and the Roush Fenway team through his webisodes, and vote on upgrades for the car and it’s route across the country — all available on RaceAroundAmerica.com. Ryan treated us and some of his fans to a carriage ride through downtown Indianapolis (paid for with his Balance card!). Be sure to watch for his latest webisode, you might see us!
