I am honored to serve as an Indiana’s Family of Farmers ambassador, raising awareness about our state’s amazing agriculture industry. Thanks to the IFOF for sponsoring this week’s Five on Friday.

For most people, summer starts after Memorial Day. For me, it starts the first Saturday in June, with the Vintage Indiana Wine Festival. Vintage is one of my most favorite things ever, because it combines two things I love: Indiana and wine. Indiana has 73 wineries that produce over 1.5 million glasses of wine a year (not all mine). That’s something to celebrate! You can bet I will be at Vintage this year, getting my wine on (responsibly!) and enjoying the beauty of downtown Indianapolis in the summer.

Want to know what Indiana wines to try? Here are five of my favorites.

(Disclaimer: I like my wine like I like my Kool-Aid: sweet and fruity. If you like dry wines, this is not list for you, but you can find lots of great ones at Vintage. More dessert wine for me!)

Satek Winery Mango Mania – This is my all-time favorite wine. Other mango wines I’ve tried taste a bit like cough medicine, but this one is perfect. Just sweet enough and deliciously fruity. YUM.

Butler Winery Blackberry Wine – According to their website, this is their most popular wine. Probably because it’s AWESOME. A perfect wine for sitting outside on a summer night. Or morning. No judgment.

Easley Winery Reggae Red Wine – A perennial favorite among my friends, this is like the OG of Indiana dessert wines. A classic that’s won numerous gold medals. The Blush and White versions are equally as tasty.

Salt Creek Winery Blueberry Wine – This small winery won’t be at Vintage this year, but it’s still one of my favorites. Located in my favorite part of southern Indiana, they have delicious sweet wines and fruit wines. It was hard to choose just one, but I went with Blueberry because it’s so unique and delicious.

Monkey Hollow Winery Strawberry Wine – Let’s just get it out of the way: best name for a winery EVER. And they make some good wine, too! Their strawberry wine is like a little taste of heaven in a glass. Their other fruit wines are delicious as well, but their strawberry is my favorite.
