If you ask my kids what they want for dinner, nine times out of ten they are going to yell, “PIZZA!” And I tend to agree with them. We are a totally cliche, pizza-loving American family. When I announce that we’re having pizza for dinner, for a brief moment, I’m a rock  star. In a world where I am regularly the “meanest mom ever,” sometimes being the rock star is nice.

I would looooove to have pizza delivered every night, however, ordering pizza all the time is not in our budget. There’s always frozen pizza, but frozen pizza makes me hesitate. I’m not a fan of food that’s full of preservatives and ingredients I can’t pronounce. I also like pizza that actually tastes good, and a lot of frozen pizza ends up tasting like cardboard. Probably because of all those preservatives and ingredients I can’t pronounce.

Our family recently had the opportunity to try Home Run Inn Pizza, which is now available here in the Hoosier state. It’s the most popular frozen pizza in Chicago, so I had high hopes for the taste. I mean, Chicago takes their pizza seriously, so it has to be good, right? We stopped by Kroger to pick up a couple of pizzas to try.

Also available at Marsh and Meijer.

I flipped over the box to read the ingredient list (like I always do), and…well, check it out. I can pronounce everything on that (short) list, and there’s no preservatives. Also: REAL CHEESE.

So it passes the ingredients test, but does it taste like cardboard? It definitely smelled good as it was baking in our oven. The boys kept telling me, “Mommy, yummy! I smell pizza!” It was heavenly. And it looked pretty awesome when I pulled it out of the oven.

Home Run Inn Cheese Pizza

Mmmm…cheese.

Home Run Inn Pizza did not disappoint. We all went back for seconds, and the oldest requested thirds. And then asked for more the next day at breakfast. Cheese pizza is usually too plain for me, but I fell in love with the sauce on this pizza. We have another Home Run Inn Pizza in the freezer, and I am looking forward to having it this weekend. Or, you know, maybe tonight. Or now.

Home Run Inn Pizza!
