The Polar Vortex that has turned Indiana into the ice planet Hoth has put me in the mood to crochet. When it’s cold outside, I love to curl up with a cup of coffee and my yarn and work on something beautiful. The romantic in me likes the idea of new creation in the middle of deadly cold weather.

Easy Crochet Chevron Scarf Pattern

I recently got a new winter coat, so of course I had to celebrate by getting some new yarn and making myself a scarf. To create this chevron patterned scarf, I modified a zig-zag afghan pattern my mom taught me ages ago, when I was not much older than my boys. This pattern is easy enough for beginners, and the great thing about it is that you can play around with it and alter it to fit your tastes. The pattern and color combinations you can create are endless.

To create this scarf, I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice yarn; two skeins each of Wild Berry and Goldfish. I used a size “I” crochet hook, and did ten rows of each color to create the large stripes.
