It’s time for a confession.

I love deals. I love saving money. But Black Friday is not my thing. I don’t like getting up early, I don’t like waiting in line, and I don’t have the energy to arm wrestle someone over a toy or a gadget. The whole prospect of Black Friday Shopping kind of terrifies me. More power to those of you that can fight that fight; it’s just not in me.

I do have a secret weapon for saving money during the holiday season. The best part? I can save money any day of the year, no waiting required. Want to know what it is?

Long-time readers know all about my love affair with Gordmans. I usually head there when I need a cute new outfit at a low price. This week’s trip was different; I was looking for the last few items to round out the boys’ Christmas list. Could I count on Gordmans to have what I was looking for?

There are three things I have to keep in mind when shopping for my boys:

  • The oldest likes traditional toys: trains, trucks, cars, tools, Legos, etc.
  • The youngest likes anything superhero.
  • I like toys that are educational.

Let’s see if Gordmans could meet my list of demands…

Traditional favorites, check.

My oldest would go bananas for this train table (only $60!).

And the Legos – so many Legos. He would be in heaven.

Superheroes, check.

I was impressed by wide array of current superhero toys. Avengers, assemble!

And in case you were wondering…

Gordmans has cute stuff for girls, too. They even have dolls from Frozen!

In the end…

Mom’s preference won out. I saw this shelf of Melissa & Doug toys (my favorite!) and it was all over. I also picked up a Jake and the Neverland Pirates telescope for the oldest. Mission: accomplished! Three Melissa & Doug toys and a Disney toy for under $50. And I didn’t have to wait in the cold or elbow anyone in the face to get them!
