The Christmas season is almost here! For many of us, that means choosing the special  holiday events that we want our families to enjoy. There’s no way we can make it to everything in the city, but I wanted to take some time here on the blog to recommend some of the very best holiday events in the city to you.

What is Celebration Crossing?

Celebration Crossing

Celebration Crossing is an annual holiday festival that is held every year at the Indiana State Museum. Celebration Crossing features a wide variety of activities that are fun for the whole family. Some remind us of holidays past, and others allow us to create new holiday memories. If you’re looking for a holiday event that is both fun and educational, this is the celebration for you.

Santa enters in style!

Celebration Crossing kicks off on Black Friday (November 29th) with Santa Claus making his grand entrance – arriving by helicopter on the front lawn of the museum! My friend Katy at Indy With Kids has a great video of Santa making his landing. To me, this looks a lot more fun than waiting in line at the mall to meet the big guy!

But that’s not all…

There’s lots more fun stuff going on for the whole month of December at the Indiana State Museum. The historic L.S. Ayres Tea Room will be serving delicious holiday meals in a festive setting. You can also make a reservation to have breakfast or brunch with Santa. One of the things I am most excited about is Hoosier Radio Hour: A 1940s Christmas. This is a fun live theater presentation about a small radio station that wants to bring Christmas cheer to the airwaves.

Celebration Crossing

One of the best features of Celebration Crossing is Santa’s Playground. There’s a wide range of activities, including crafts, and there’s a parent rest area. That part certainly adds to my holiday cheer! If you want to keep celebrating after Christmas is over, there’s a Family New Year’s Eve Celebration from 6 to 9 p.m. on December 31st. This will be a family-friendly event with crafts, face-painting, games, and prizes, as well as live music from local band The Tides. Reservations are recommended for this awesome evening of fun!

Celebration Crossing

We will be newbies at Celebration Crossing this year, but I am already excited to include it in our family traditions. I think you will love it too, and I hope to see you there!

Celebration Crossing runs from November 29th to December 31st, 2013. Indiana State Museum admission is $10 for adults, $5.50 for children, and FREE for members. Plus, there’s a special free day on December 16th, so mark your calendar!
