Dear Youngest Child,
When you have a baby, everyone always tells you that the time will go by faster than you could imagine. This is true. What no one tells you is that time with the second child passes even faster than it does with the first child. I gave birth to you, and then I blinked and you were walking. I blinked again, and now you are three. I really can’t believe it.
You were our surprise baby, and from pregnancy you have been a challenging child. You are stubborn and determined, and you have no problem asserting yourself to get your way. But you also have a sweet and gentle side; you are a mommy’s boy who always wants to snuggle and touch my hair. You give your hugs and kisses freely. You are an independent spirit, but you also adore your older brother, and you want to do everything he does. You are so special, so unique, and you never fail to make me laugh.
There are so many special things I value about you: how much you love Star Wars, your hilarious rendition of “The Caterpillar Song,” the way you ask me if I’ve “had a nice sleep” when you wake up in the morning. I pray that you never feel the need to hide the things that make you special. Be proud to be unique. Don’t be afraid to be different. Keep reading lots of books, and keep learning about God. Keep looking up to your dad and your brother; they are great role models for you to follow.
Most of all, I want you to know just how much I love you. We didn’t expect you to come so soon after your brother, but now I can’t imagine life without you. You are proof that God knows what we need more than we do. Thank you for blessing my life and making it so much richer. I look forward to seeing you grow up, and feel blessed that I get to be part of that process. I love you.
