This post is sponsored by Betty Crocker. All opinions and cake-faced children are my own.

Did your little one have a special smash cake for the first birthday? We did for both of our boys.

The oldest was not amused. We had to force  him just touch the cake, let alone smash it.

The youngest, well…he went for it. And ended up looking like an extra from Avatar.

The nice thing about the smash cake is that it’s meant to be smashed. It doesn’t have to be expensive or elaborate; just something cute and tasty that your kiddo can sink his teeth (and hand, and feet, and face) into. It doesn’t need to be a high-stress creation. In fact, Betty Crocker has made the whole thing pretty easy.

Seriously, that’s ridiculously easy. Even I could do it! I really love some of the ideas Betty Crocker has on their website, my favorite is this number 1 shaped cake. Super cute, right?

We moms love to stress over all the first birthday details, but the smash cake doesn’t have to be one of them. Keep it simple, and focus on having fun with your baby! (And getting lots of great pictures!)
