I recently shared some of the wisdom my mom taught me growing up. As I reflected on this wisdom she shared, I thought about the example I am leaving my own kids. What will they learn from me? What habits of mine will they copy? What habits do I want them to copy?

Mother Knows Best

Will they make healthy choices?

Of course I want them to be kind, to be loving, to always try their hardest and do their very best. But I also want them to be healthy. I have realized over the past year that the best way to raise healthy kids is to be a healthy parent. I’ve started exercising, eating healthier, and I’ve kicked the horrible soda habit that I had for most of my life. I had to do that last one gradually, because I was truly addicted. But little by little, I replaced my sodas with water, and now water is my drink of choice (outside of my morning coffee, of course). I look better, I feel better, I’ve lost weight, and I’m modeling good health to my kids. It’s working, too; I’m seeing my children make better choices. Today my oldest begged me to buy apples at the store, and my youngest is usually emptying my bottle of water before I can get two drinks in. Keeping kids hydrated is so important, so I’m glad to share the wealth.

One of the biggest things my mom taught me was personal responsibility, and this challenge is a great opportunity to take responsibility for my health and the health of my family. It’s my job to set the example and encourage healthy habits in my home. As my mom would say, “if you don’t like something; change it!” A chance to win an awesome vacation for my family is just an extra perk!

Will you join me in taking the Hydration Movement Pledge?  Let’s get healthy together. And if you win the grand prize – I am a really fun person to take on vacation. Just saying.
