Color Me Rad 5k | Rad Race and Free Entry Giveaway
Earlier this week, I wrote about how I lost my damn mind and committed to completing 13 5k races in 2013. The same day I went crazy, I heard about this race called Color Me Rad. I did some Googling, and after about 30 seconds I knew this was the race for me. From the Color Me Rad “About” page:
“Historically, running has only been acceptable when trying to escape the law, personal responsibility, the truth, and grizzly bears.”
Yes, that’s pretty much exactly how I feel about it.
However, Color Me Rad makes running…fun. Yeah, I know. I didn’t think it was possible, either. But Color Me Rad is not just running. It’s running while having Color Bombs (made of colored corn starch) thrown at you. You start the race with a nice crispy white shirt, and after 5k of sweat and corn starch, you’re covered in more tie-dye than a Phish concert. It sounds pretty awesome, and I can’t wait to be a part of it. I’m actually pretty bummed that those of us here in Indianapolis have to wait until SEPTEMBER to run the race. Races start next month and they are literally ALL OVER THE COUNTRY (and in Canada!). so no matter where you are, there’s probably a Color Me Rad close by.
The very best part about Color Me Rad is that the proceeds from the race go to benefit charities in the host city. Here in Indianapolis, Color Me Rad supports the Special Olympics Indiana, an organization that is very dear to me. Fun, fitness, and supporting a local charity – I’m not really seeing a downside here!

I want to do the one in Indianapolis in September. I will be having a baby in March, so it will still give me some motivation! I’ve never done a 5k, though I have been to “festival of colors” where colors are thrown in celebration of Hare Krishna. Anyways, it’s awesome fun! Hope I win!

I did a run last year in Knoxville, TN with my 20-something daughter to celebrate my 50th birthday. It was so much fun, I’d love to go again. The closest one to me is in NOLA in May.
