A few months ago, I decided to join the 2000s and finally get a smartphone. I love my Garminfone, and I’ve discovered a new addiction – apps! I’ve had a blast searching the Android Market for apps to download. Since I’m a cheapskate, all my app downloads so far have been free apps…this is Mom for Less, after all. Here are some of my favorite free apps:

Menstrual Calendar: Yeah, I know, it’s probably TMI – but I love this app. Whether you’re trying to get pregnant, or trying NOT to get pregnant, this app is great. I use it exclusively to keep track of my cycles, but it also tracks basal body temperature and other ovulation symptoms. Over time you are able to create reports that show your cycle’s patterns. There are some ads at the bottom of the screen, but they’re non-intrusive, and they help keep this app free!

Lightning Bug: I use this app every single night. It’s the best app out there for relaxing, sleep-inducing sounds. It has everything from white noise to classical guitar. My favorites are the beachy themes, and the thunderstorms. Lightning Bug has several free sounds available, and you can also purchase additional plug-in packs. It’s so highly customizable that I do just fine with the free version!

Faith’s Checkbook: Daily devotions from the Prince of Preachers, Charles Haddon Spurgeon. I have been so blessed by this app. Every day I am encouraged or challenged. I highly recommend it to any Christian looking for a powerful devotion.

Kids’ Meal Deals: This awesome app helps you find local restaurants that offer days where kids eat for free. Just select a day of the week, and it will find restaurants close to you and give the details of the offer. A great way to save money on the go!

What apps do you love? Let me know in the comments.
