Sometimes, saving money is hard work. Your coupons don’t match your shopping list, and the week’s sales don’t match your coupons. You have an amount in your head that you don’t want to go over, but you aren’t finding the deals to go with it. Or an unexpected need comes up, and you are forced to pay…FULL PRICE.

However, sometimes the stars align and things work out better than you could imagine. Those things you had to buy anyway are on sale and you have a coupon. The exact thing you were looking for is on the clearance rack. Everything is coming up savings.

I had one of those great days on Friday. I had a short list of things that I had to purchase, whether I could save money or not. My family considers clean clothing and clean bottoms a necessity, so I had to get laundry detergent and diapers, plus a few other items. I work close to a Target, so before I headed out, I checked out the Target Printable Coupons. I found coupons for every item I needed to purchase but one! I could not hit “print” fast enough.

Next, I went to the Target Weekly Ad to see if I could find any more savings. Everything I had a coupon for was on sale! The best deal I found was a Room Essentials Bed Pillow on sale for $3. With my $1 off coupon, I paid only $2 for a pillow that is usually $4.49.

Without coupons, my total would have been $26.91. With coupons and sales, my total was $21.17. Not one of those amazing coupon savings you hear about, but ten minutes of time saved me $5.74 on things I would have had to buy anyway. An added bonus was that going into Target with a plan, knowing exactly what I wanted to buy, kept me from making impulse purchases. Not a bad way to spend my lunch hour!
