I follow a lot of blogs that are absolutely adorable. They have great designs and cute buttons. I always wanted to be able to do the same with my blog, but I figured you either had to have technical knowhow – and I don’t – or you had to spend money. Turns out, I was wrong! Here’s how I made my own button and header:

First, photo editing software. I definitely cannot afford Photoshop, though I would love to have it. However, I found a great free tool in Photoscape. Photoscape allowed me to resize my photos, add text, and do all other kinds of cute things. And trust me, if I could figure out Photoscape, anyone can. It’s easy to use, even for the technically challenged among us (like me!).

Now, how do you make your photo into a button? Well, I have to thank Oikology 101 for helping me with that one! The simple instructions provided helped me to make a button for my blog. See?

Pretty cute, huh?

For my header, I used Photoscape and the new Template Design feature in Blogger. Took a little trial and error to get it to fit, but it ended up looking great.

I still dream of having a professional design my layout one day…my tricks improved the look of my blog, but let’s face it – web designers get paid for a reason! They are good at what they do. But in the meantime, using some free tools and tutorials have helped my blog feel like my blog.
